MDC-T President, Douglas Mwonzora, says he has asked the Chief Whip of his party to negotiate certain constitutional amendments that will be tabled in parliament by ZANU-PF.

Mwonzora, who was speaking on ZTV said:

The issue of the running mate and the interviews of the judges and so on. Those are the issues that I’ve directed the chief whip off my party to enter into discourse with ZANU-PF in parliament.

We have a few things to discuss regarding that.

Regarding the women’s quota , there is no problem because, of course, we have to encourage the representation of women in parliament. Regarding the youth quota, again we have no problem because we have to encourage the representation of the youth.

Speaking on the same ZTV interview, Justice Minister, Ziyambi Ziyambi said:

We need to ensure that women are empowered to participate in politics.

Hence we want to extend the clause that makes provision for 60 seats for women in the National Assembly. That is part of the deal.

We are introducing a youth quota following Calls from the youth, we now have 10 seats reserved for for for the youth in the bill, and provisions that deal with the prosecutor general’s appointment.

We want to delink it with the interviews, being done by the judicial Service Commission. That is the other clause that that is there.

We also have a clauses that have to deal with the interview process of judges, to say that judges must only be interviewed at the entry level and not on promotion.

They are other mechanisms that must be used but we cannot subject our judges. Upon promotion to interview process.

Ziyambi Ziyambi said the President will now be able to appoint and dismiss the Vice President.
