The President of the Republic of Botswana Mokgweetsi Masisi has proposed a six months lockdown with effect from 1st April to 30 September.

In a statement presented to parliament, Masisi also proposed a curfew from 8pm to 4am.

Masisi declared the state of public emergency for the first time on 2nd April 2020 and it was approved by the members of the parliament.

The house of assembly further resolved to extend the period of the declaration of the state of emergency by a further six months.

According to a statement by Masisi, during the six months lockdown periods, the government of Botswana was able to issue an income tax order of 2020, through which tax was to be paid by way of quarterly installments of 25%, with the remaining 75% payable at a later date.

The government of Botswana also managed to record an increase in the uptake of information and communication technology in both public and private sectors.

If the parliament approves Botswana will be on lockdown for six months with effect from 1st April to 30th September.
