The of President of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa has received China’s Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine.
The President confirmed that he has been vaccinated through his social media platforms.
“I just received my #COVID19 vaccine! Zimbabweans, the vaccine is safe and effective. I urge you all to get your jab,” tweeted Mnangagwa.
The President was vaccinated at Victoria Falls, the event that was attended by other politicians including Douglas Mwonzora the President of Movement for Democratic Change (MDC T).
The President said the presence of some of his political opponents showed that the country was united in fighting the coronavirus pandemic
Zimbabwe had planned to administer the Sinopharm vaccine to 53,000 health workers and selected security forces when it rolled out the first phase of its programme on Feb. 18, but only 44,135 people had been vaccinated by Tuesday, the health ministry said.
