Prominent journalist Hopewell Chin’ono says Tanzania’s President John Magufuli’s legacy is going to be contested and be defined by history in good times.

In a interview on SABC, Hopewell said Magufuli started off as a rock star in African politics as he was focusing on fighting corruption and the plunder of natural resources in his country.

Chin’ono said Magufuli became extremely popular after declaring that he will fight international conglomerates in the mining industry that were looting in his country.

Chin’ono said Magufuli was however tolerant to journalist harassment, torture of critics and stifling of freedom among the opposition.

The journalist said Magafuli failed to adhere to basic covid-19 regulations such as putting on masks thus putting his life and that of others at risk.

Chin’ono said the demise of th Tanzanian leader can be used to start discussions on Covid-19 and how it can be dealt with.
