South African Police yesterday shot an innocent passed by dead as they tried to disperse protesting students in the Johannesburg City Centre of Braamfontein.

Bystanders said the 35 year old man, who had just left a private clinic shouted ‘Why are you shooting me’ after he was shot two times, the policemen then shot him three more times at point blank range before he fell down.

One bullet hit the man in the face, another in the chest and another in the stomach. The cop shot him and jumped over him.

A doctor at the medical centre, Dr Tebogo Sedibe, said he had just treated the man and provided him with a sick note. The doctor said he heard 5 gunshots and ran outside. He tried to revive the man but was not successful.

A student who spoke to the Star Newspaper said a policeman who shot her seemed to enjoy shooting her. She said the policeman did not seem to care if she was part of the protest or not.

Wits students have been protesting since Monday over the exclusion of students with historic debt. Students wste angered after Blade Nzimande announced that the government does not have money to fund new students.
