A Mutoko man learnt the hard way that lying to a woman about his marital status does not pay after a woman he was dating for 2 years reported him to the police for r_ape, after she found out he was actually married.
Speaking on Tilda Live, Alphanari, who has been in jail at Chikurubi for the past 14 years, said his carefully planned deception was discovered by chance.
Alphanari said his wife and girlfriend lived so far apart that for 2 years, they never met. During all this time, he would promise the girl that he would be marrying her soon.
On a certain day, Alphanari and his girlfriend travelled to a certain place where they met a vendor whom they both knew.
The vendor asked his girlfriend about their relationship and when his girlfriend revealed that they were dating, the vendor asked the girl if she knew Alphanari was married.
Alphanari said this angered the girl so much that she went to the police and reported him for r_ape
Her case was that during the two years that they dated, he forced himself on her on two occasions.
Alphanari, who did not have a lawyer, was found guilty and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Alphanari says his wife last visited him in 2014, and he does not have any other relatives in Zimbabwe as his father was originally from Mozambique.
Alphanari says he will be out of Chikurubi in 2026.
