MDC Alliance President, Nelson Chamisa,  this afternoon paid a visit to the Budiriro area where 190 houses were demolished.

This comes as there are denials by  the Chamisa faction led Harare City Council regarding who is responsible for getting court orders that led to the demolitions.

Chamisa was told that the land baron who sold stands in the area is currently in jail and victims needed immediate assistance due to the rains.

Victims of the Budiriro house demolitions have appealed for assistance from Chamisa with tents after 190 houses were demolished in the area this week.

Victims said Councillors came with Riot Police and this made them suspect that the demolitions were done by government and not by council.

Harare Mayor, Jacob Mafume, said the MDC is not to blame for the demolitions as the problem arose from the chaotic land reform. He said he has instructed the relevant department to look all the court orders and see what can be done.

Mafume said he will allow the victims to challenge the court orders. He said they will audit the court orders and see if they are genuine.

Chamisa told victims that he will see what can be done, but did not commit to anything. He said he will investigate the role of council in the demolitions.

The victims told Chamisa that they were chased by riot police who fired tear smoke at them.

Riot police immediately arrived when Chamisa was still touring the area, but did not engage him and continued watching from a distance.
