Coronavirus infection statistics have left  South African experts baffled.

In certain laboratories, there has not been a positive test in the past 3 weeks.

A family doctor based in Lenasia told The Star newspaper that they haven’t had a positive swab for the past three weeks.

‘It has been very difficult to understand what is going on’

Studies in parts of South Africa have shown that between 35% to 45% of residents have already been infected with the coronavirus. However most of these don’t even know that they had the virus.

Experts believe that the virus is running out of people to infect.

The Minister of health told SABC television that the economy will have to re open soon as the infection rate no longer justifies the higher lockdown levels.
