South Africa is coming to the end of  its digital census trial, in preparation for the 2021 Census. However, tests carried out by Gambakwe media show that the process has various bugs such as failure to send one time pins and the form becoming unresponsive and preventing the website visitor from completing the process.

Gambakwe Media was unable to go beyond the point where the form asked for name of building and was unable to receive an otp by email. An otp was obtained through the sms option.

Statistics SA spokesman, Risenga Maluleke told SABC this week that the 2021 census will now be completely paperless.

StatSA is asking the public to register for the trial, which ends on the 6th of September through adverts in national newspapers. The website for the trial is getcounted.statsa.gov.za

SA’s fourth census will begin next year and will allow for broader collection platforms that include telephonic and online platforms.
