In a shocking development, the MDC-T extraordinary congress has been moved back to 31 July 2020. This was revealed in a new press statement issued by the MDC-T Secretary for Information and Publicity – Khaliphani Phugeni.

The implication is that Dr Thokozani Khuphe has failed to hold the ectraordinary congress by 30 June and therefore Morgan Komichi will be in charge of holding the EOC by the 31st of July 2020.

The statement by MDC-T Read As Follows:

The MOVEMENT FOR DEMOCRATIC CHANGE-T, held an emergency Standing
Committee meeting today Sunday, June 2020, at MRT House.
The emergency standing committee was to dispense with the business of our much
awaited Extra Ordinary Congress.
On Wednesday, 24 June 2020 the Standing Committee announced that it will hold its
EOC on the 4th to 6th of September 2020, in full compliance with the Supreme Court
judgment.
This date was informed by the legal advice which we had received. Our lawyers
understood the Chief Justice’s “Practice Direction 1 of 2020” in particular clause 3 to
7 to have stayed the execution of the judgement for about 6 weeks because of
Covid19.
Our legal team has reconsidered the legal position. It has advised that we hold our
EOC within 4 months from 31 March 2020. Accordingly the Standing Committee has
moved the EOC date to 31 July 2020, this being the last day we can hold our EOC
within the boundaries of the SC judgement.
In view of Covid 19, the Standing Committee is taking all necessary steps to host this
EOC without jeopardising public health and that of our members.
The Standing Committee also received briefing from our lawyers on the Court
outcome of the MRT House battle. The Standing Committee paid homage to our
legal team led by professor Madhuku, for the sterling job they’ve done in the last
two years.
