Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander Valerio Sibanda has this evening slammed greedy ZANU PF Officials who have abandoned the values of the liberation struggle and are now focused on acquisition of wealth and corruption.

CDF Sibanda was speaking to the ZANU PF YouTube Channel while paying tribute the late national hero, Stanley Nleya.

Sibanda said during the war they were taught to share whatever was available equally.

The Rhodesians once ran a campaign showing a Guerilla leader with a big plate and the ordinary soldier with nothing. However this did not work because this was not the case on the ground.

Sibanda said after independence, it is unfortunate that some comrades went wayward and started too amass vast amounts of wealth and got involved in corruption and other evil deeds.

However. He said sharing is a value that a lot of former freedom fighters Still retain today.

Way Forward

Sibanda said Zimbabwe needs to come up with strategies to educate the youths. He said he believes a big mistake was made in 1980.

A proper national youths service should have been undertaken to correctly educate the youths to impart the good virtues for being citizens and leaders of tomorrow.

Sibanda said the education system in his view was good, it produced a lot of academics, but did not educate young people to be patriotic and self reliant, instead, youths were educated to be employees of other people.

Poor documentation of the Liberation Struggle

Sibanda said it is true we have not adequately documents our history as far as the struggle is concerned. There are people who are writing about our struggle who never participated in it.

On Stanley Nleya (Code Name Elish Gagisa) Sibanda said his declaration as a National liberation hero was a fitting recognition of what he did during his time.

‘Yes, he didn’t join the assembly points at independence, he was demobilized and went on to do other things and what the party and government have done is a very good thing.’
