Zimbabwe People Power Movement Leader Albert Matapo says SADC Soldiers Could be in Mozambique Within A Week.

Matapo, who is a former Captain in the Zimbabwe military said Zimbabwe is likely to have command of a regional force that should focus on flushing out the insugents within a period of 3 months to 6 months.

Matapo said the regional force should cut off the supply routes for the insurgents by closing of the long Mozambique coastline and should also have soldiers on the ground and in the air.

Matapo said the declaration of the insurgents as terrorists will enable SADC to get international assistance in fighting the insurgents as terrorists are not wanted internationally.

Zimbabwe has taken the lead in assisting Mozambique after two high level meetings were held with Mozambique President Phillipe Nyusi over the past 2 months.

The extraordinary SADC Troika Meeting was held in Harare on 19 May 2020, attended by Presidents Mokgweetsi Masisi (Botswana) , Edgar Lungu (Zambia) and Fillipe Nyusi (Mozambique) .

The Zimbabwe Minister of Foreign Affairs, SB Moyo read out 4 key resolutions of the summit, 2 of which relate to Mozambique:

– Declared the armed groups operating in Cabo Del Gado As Terrorists
– Called upon SADC Countries to support the government of Fillipe Nyusi
– Called for Power Hand Over in Lesotho
– Noted the Judgement in Malawi

Matapo says the Zimbabwe government does not have enough funds to fight alone and that is why they called on SADC.

He also said there could be high casualties in SADC countries in future if the Mozambique insurgents are not dealt with now.
