The Malawi National Assembly has started preparations for fresh elections after the High court ruling that nullified the last elections.

Speaker of the Malawi National Assembly said they are now implementing the judgement and said the Malawi Parliament will obey and implement the order of the court fully unless there is a stay order.

The constitutional court has given the assembly 21 days in which to make the legislative arrangements for elections going forward, including passing bills.

These processes will start on the 10th of February 2020 and all bills should be passed by 24th February 2020 when the 21 days set out by the court come to an end.

Former President, Peter Mutharika said he will be appealing the nullification of the elections.
