There is a huge visibility of riot police in town as the case of Nelson Chamisa legitimacy challenged by the a former member of MDC from Gokwe is heard today.
On 8 May 2019, the High Court ruled that Nelson Chamisa is not the legitimate leader of the MDC.
The judgement was delivered by Justice Edith Mushore. She said that the Movement for Democratic Change had not properly followed its own internal processes in appointing Chamisa as vice-president in 2016.
The legal challenge against Nelson Chamisa was launched by Elias Mashavire who was the organising secretary for the party’s Gokwe district at that time.
As usual, the Police anticipated mass demonstrations and violence by MDC members and deployed riot police all over town.
