The Harare City Council has resorted to selling some of its cattle to finance the rehabilitation of constant breaking down digesters which have been undermining waste water treatment.

The Acting Director of Harare Water, Engineer Mabhena Moyo said the plant is only treating 83 megalitres of Harare waster water as it is currently unable to function at its full capacity due to numerous breakdowns at the Sewer Treatment Plant

He added that the rest of the 240ml received on a daily basis is being treated “to secondary level quality before being used to irrigate pastures in Council’s cattle farms”.

Town Clerk Engineer Hosea Chisango added that Council is in need of funding to enable the plants to function at their full capacity.
