Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty (born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, on December 8, 1982), known professionally as Nicki Minaj, is a Trinidadian-American rapper. Starting in October 2025, Nicki Minaj and Jay-Z are embroiled in a public feud stemming from a financial dispute over the streaming service TIDAL.
Minaj has been airing her grievances on social media, accusing Jay-Z of underpaying her for her stake in the company and of other misconduct. When Jay-Z relaunched TIDAL in 2015, he enlisted 15 artist partners, including Minaj, and reportedly gave each a 3% equity stake in the company.
In 2021, Jay-Z sold his majority share of TIDAL to Jack Dorsey’s Square for $302 million.
Minaj claims that she did not receive her proper payout after the sale. In a series of social media posts, she has alleged she was only offered $1 million, a figure she believes is far less than her 3% stake was worth. She has called the offer a “scam” and has claimed Jay-Z owes her between $100 and $200 million in “karmic debt”. Jay-Z has remained publicly silent on the matter.
No formal lawsuit has been publicly confirmed or filed by Nicki Minaj against Jay-Z or TIDAL regarding the financial dispute over the streaming service. The feud has been conducted primarily through accusations on social media.
