Chatunga Bellarmine Mugabe, the son of the late former President Robert Mugabe, has stirred public debate after calling out what he described as “silence bought through donations” in the wake of the Chitungwiza road accident.

In a pointed post shared online, Chatunga said“Public figures who received free cars cannot comment on the accident in Chitungwiza because they fear upsetting their sponsors. Humwe huranda hunouya nekuda kugamuchira shuwa…”

He ended the message by quoting Winky D, saying, “Akataura chokwadi hake” a clear endorsement of the artist’s reputation for fearlessly speaking truth to power.

The statement is widely believed to reference Wicknell Chivhayo, who has recently made headlines for donating luxury vehicles to celebrities, clergy, and influencers. While many have praised his generosity, others have questioned the priorities of such philanthropy.

Critics argue that instead of splurging on high-end SUVs and sedans, funds should go toward public needs particularly ambulances, fire trucks, or cranes resources that were notably absent or delayed in responding to the fatal Chitungwiza accident.

The accident, which claimed multiple lives and required urgent rescue logistics, has reignited discussions about government readiness, infrastructure, and misplaced spending.
