Controversial Zimbabwean socialite Ashley Masendeke, popularly known as Mai Jeremaya, has ignited public backlash following startling remarks made during an appearance on DJ Ollah 7’s podcast.
In the emotionally intense interview, Masendeke recounted details surrounding a past sexual assault allegation, identifying one of the accused only as “Thabo.” While reflecting on the events, she made a shocking admission that had Thabo pursued her romantically before the alleged incident, she might have accepted his proposal.
“I liked him,” Masendeke confessed, “if he had approached me properly before, I probably would have dated him.”
The comment has since drawn criticism online, with many accusing her of trivializing sexual violence and confusing public understanding of consent and accountability.
Mai Jeremaya, known for her polarizing online persona, has not responded to the backlash, but the remarks have sparked broader conversations on survivor narratives, trauma, and the importance of clarity when discussing serious allegations in the public domain.
