I am currently representing Zimbabwe at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Geneva. I was honored to receive the Girls Speak Out Award on behalf of Usawa Institute a beacon for girls’ digital empowerment in Zimbabwe.

At the summit, Tatenda had the honour of receiving the Girls Speak Out Award on behalf of the Usawa Institute, an organisation recognized as a beacon for girls’ digital empowerment in Zimbabwe. This award, presented by ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin, acknowledges Usawa’s transformative work in closing the gender digital gap by providing girls with the skills, opportunities, and platforms needed to thrive in the digital age.
As Zimbabwe’s Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Tatenda Mavetera reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering inclusive technology ecosystems where every girl’s voice can be amplified and heard. His participation at WSIS highlights Zimbabwe’s active role in global conversations about digital inclusion and the empowerment of marginalized groups through technology.
The WSIS conference serves as a critical forum to share best practices, forge partnerships, and develop policies that ensure equitable access to ICT, especially for women and girls who have historically been underrepresented in the tech sector. Zimbabwe’s recognition at this summit through the Girls Speak Out Award underscores the country’s progress and dedication to building a future where digital empowerment is a reality for all.
