ZRP has arrested & detained Timothy Chiminya, the self-styled King Munhumutapa, & charged him with undermining authority of or insulting President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Chiminya was arrested by some @PoliceZimbabwe officers on 16 December, who accused him of acting unlawfully & causing ridicule to President Mnangagwa by purporting to appoint Chiefs & thereby performing a task, which is reportedly the preserve of the ruling ZANU PF political party leader.
Chiminya, who is represented by Gift Mtisi of @ZLHRLawyers, is also accused of dethroning some Chiefs in some parts of Zimbabwe, who were legitimately appointed by President Mnangagwa. Chiminya appeared before Harare Magistrate Sheunesu Matowa on 18 December & was remanded in custody to 7 January 2025, to allow two medical doctors to conduct a mental health evaluation on him after prosecutors requested so.
