Former MTN CEO and Eskom Chair Sifiso Raymond Dabengwa succumbed to cancer on Sunday. He was the CEO of MTN between 2011 and 2015 and served on Eskom’s board.
He was married to Naspers SA CEO Phuthi Mahanyele-Dabengwa. He is survived by his wife and four children. Dabengwa made the list of South Africa’s 200 richest individuals based on the value of disclosed directors’ holdings in JSE companies covering the period from the period from December 2015 to November 2016.
He resigned from Eskom after a disagreement with colleagues over the cancellation of a tender. He was born on April 5, 1958 in Zimbabwe. He was the younger brother of Zimbabwean liberation hero Dumiso Dabengwa.
He had a BSC in Electrical Engineering from the University of Zimbabwe and a MBA from Wits Business School in Johannesburg. He served on numerous boards such as Impala Platinum Holdings, Dawn Suite Hotel Group, Peermont Global and Gijima Group Limited.
