Hopewell Chin’ono has today announced the formation of a government in exile. “The problem we have had in Zimbabwe is personality politics, where one person prescribes what needs to be done. I do not want to prescribe what needs to be done.”

Chin’ono said he wants people to go and reflect before coming back and providing feedback.

Discussion Summary
– Hopewell is concerned that Zimbabweans do not want people to critique any other people.
– -Zimbabweans need to change the political culture of following individuals.
– Elections do not work and people are afraid to go on the street.
– That’s why Mnangagwa is able to steal all your money by changing your currency.
– I am proposing that Zimbabweans have what I call a government in exile, a government that can articulate the will of the people.
– It hurts me that Jameson Timba s in jail, that man can not hurt a fly.
– This idea has freaked out the regime and some elements of the opposition because they think this is about Hopewell coming in through the backdoor.
– This entity must be led by competent Zimbabweans.
– We need to organise ourselves.
– This is not about a group of people trying to grab power.
– The Diaspora has the capacity to do something that at home they can not do.
– This has been done in other countries.
– This has to be a legal entity.
– This is because when I travel I use my own money and its not right for a person to carry the weight of a nation.
– The immediate aims are the SADC observer report, it should be used a document to start pushing for reforms.
– I spoke to Jacob Ngarivhume when they ere picking him up
– We need an entity that will help you when you are in trouble.
– We need an organisation that can lobby for the diaspora vote.
– This should not be about lip service, just waiting for the next elections
– This is a tentative thing, but the idea is based on what I have said.
– Take the City Back, Take Our nation back
– I have reported before how I got 10 ambulances and 10 fire engines, it didnt go through and I have explained why before.
– Our country has the potential to be a 200 billion economu\y
– But today we are five times smaller than Kenya
– Richard Mashave tooo me to see Sammy Levy
– Samy Levy told me that Jews value their money
– In the Africa economy, money only spends 6 hours before it leaves
– How many hours do you think money spends in the Zimbabwean community.
– Partisanship creates toxicity
– The first one month after Mnangagwa got into government they had stolen $3 Billion

Questions

The government that is oppressing us is oppressing us internationally. The only way Zimbabweans can survive is if we create an organisation that can represent us.

There are many Hopewells that can open doors for Zimbabweans. Some of the doors that you see me entering are bring opened by Zimbabweans that work in those organisations.

Its a group of individuals that can represent the people.

– I am already famous, I am not looking for fame. I am looking for an idea that can help Zimbabweans that can help Zimbabweans.
– I want something that can allow us to be agents of change.
– this is better than each one of us working as an individual.

  • I want this to become a family discussion. I have put it on the table.I would like people to reflect on what I have said so that people can exchange ideas.

What I have done is simply to plant an idea in people’s minds

We need to move away from personality politics. If you critique someone I like, I will get angry. For example, there are people who like Mnangagwa, regardless of all the problems that we have now.

I am 63, I will be luck if I am still alive in 30 years time. I want us to do something that will be rememberd by future generations.

There are some people who say you are working against Chamisa.

I think its pettiness, it shows a lack of depth of understanding of the things that are happening in our country. The opposition that is there I have fund raised for them. Chamisa and Biti can tell you. I am the one that fundraised the money that was used to bury the opposition campaigner that was killed in Kwekwe.

Anyone is allowed to have an idea. What we need to say is to say when do we do to have ideas.

It was an individual who decided that we should form ZANU-PF. Everything starts from an individual. We need to think beyond individuals.

I see in the comment sections, its all about he wants to upstage so and so. Should I keep quiet while people die? Should I keep quiet when people are still in prison.

I block people for mental health reasons. I dont want to be in a conversation with someone insulting me or my mother.

I have never blocked anyone who is having a simple conversation with me.

There is nothing I have after I left Zimbabwe that I haven’t said when I was in Zimbabwe. The only thing I have said after I left Zimbabwe is CrookedED.

Lets be organised abroad and help those who are on the ground.

All political parties have failed to unlock the answers to our problems.

Change must happen with collusion with the opposition.

Legitimacy is derived from the people

Leadership should be organic, its about consensus.

People think I am doing this for money. I have enough money to last me a lifetime.

Conclusion

1. Hopewell has failed to articulate the issues that he raised about Chamisa. He is not brave enough to reveal details of his allegations.
2. Hopewell has tried to launch a half baked idea.
3. Zimbabweans are contentious about being blocked by Hopewell.
4. Hopewell is very connected.
5. There is more at play than meets the eye.
6. Something big is about to happen.
7. Hopewell says he does not believe in appointed leadership, he believes in organic leadership.
8. I don’t see anything wrong with an additional layer, with a group of people that can go around the world putting a light on the situation in Zimbabwe.
9. Do not see this as an attack on ZANU-PF or on CCC.
10. If you are in the opposition, I dont see why you should be worried when someone else comes with an additional way. We should respect people in the Diaspora.
