The Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has resolved to penalize apostolic sects conducting open-air worship on council land without authority.
The sects have been accused of degrading the environment, constructing illegal structures, and violating various by-laws and acts.
The council has directed the Lands Inspectorate to conduct educational awareness campaigns and enforce relevant by-laws, imposing fines on offenders.
Apostolic churches have been encouraged to register and apply for church stands to establish legitimate places of worship.
