A statement circulating on social media claiming that President Emmerson Mnangagwa is seeking a third term in office has been dismissed as fake by the President’s office.

The statement, released on May 23, alleged that there are plots to overthrow the president and claimed that he has taken measures to prevent it. It also suggested that Mnangagwa is working on ways to extend his term in office beyond the constitutional limit.

However, the presidency has denounced the statement as false and malicious.

The denial has however sparked a heated debate on social media, with many questioning Mnangagwa’s true intentions.

The constitution of Zimbabwe limits a president to two terms in office, and Mnangagwa’s second term is set to end in 2028.
