President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed opposition legislator Jessie Fungai Majome as the new chairperson of the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission.

In a statement, the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Martin Rushwaya said the appointment is with immediate effect.

Majome holds several degrees, including a Master of Law in Constitutional Law, Development Law, Human Rights Law and Administrative Law.

She was a longtime legislator in the MDC under the late Morgan Tsvangirai. She served as Deputy Minister in both Women’s Affairs and Justice portfolios.
