Three journalists were attacked by Zanu PF thugs in Bulawayo on Monday while were covering a clash between vendors and supporters of the ruling party.

Annastacia Ndlovu a Bulawayo based journalist together with freelance journalists Pamenus Tuso and Lungelo Ndlovu were assaulted.

Media Institute of Southern Africa, Regional Director Thabani Moyo said the increase in attacks on journalists as the election date approaches is worrying.

He urged the police to investigate the matter and bring the culprits to book as this will send a strong message to other perpetrators.

The country is set to hold presidential and parliamentary elections on 23 August.
