President Emmerson Mnangagwa has condemned the ban of opposition election campaign rallies ahead of 23 August general elections.

In a memo shared to police, Mnangagwa said all processes relating to elections should be done peacefully.

Police chiefs advised provincial police commanders to “ensure that political parties are allowed to hold rallies unless there are valid reasons to warrant such rejections” and decisions to prohibit rallies only to be taken after “thoroughly consulting”.
