Former Botswana President, Ian Khama, will soon be sent back to Botswana to face charges of money laundering and possession of illegal firearms.

This comes after Khama lost his court bid to be allowed to stay in South Africa without the possibility of being arrested.

The court said Khama’s bid was premature as he has not yet been arrested.

Khama, who was challenging the NPA, the DPP and correctional services minister, Ronald Lamola, has been living in Exile in South Africa since 2021.

He has failed to appear in court in Botswana on a number of occasions. A warrant of arrest was issued against Khama in March 2023, after he again failed to appear in court.

The Star Newspaper reported that Khama was living at the luxurious Saxon Hotel, a stone throw from his close ally, President Cyril Ramaphosa.
