Zimbabwean journalist Julie Barnes and author Tsitsi Dangarembga were found guilty by Magistrate Barbra Mateko on their charges of inciting public violence.

Mateko in her ruling said that the accused were protesting and instilling violence and they are found guilty as charged.

Their lawyers said their case should be treated with leniency as they are first time offenders.

The two were sentenced to a fine of 70,000 Zimbabwe dollars (U$193) or three months in jail if they can’t pay.
