South African daily newspaper, The Star, has seen messages where fugitive Malawian Prophet, Shepherd Bushiri, revealed that the Malawian government was planning to help him escape South Africa.
The newspaper says Bushiri told an ANC councillor that he was waiting for his government to take him back home.
The newspaper revealed that Bushiri had already moved all his cars and money to Malawi by the time he fled South Africa.
Bushiri fled South Africa on the same day that Malawian President, Lazarus Chakwera, left South Africa for Malawi after a state visit.
Other sources have speculated that Bushiri left in the presidential jet, something that had the blessing of SA President Cyril Ramaphosa .
