The South African reports that Police Minister Bheki Cele spends R600 million a year on food and accommodation when he goes on official trips.

This comes after Cele made it clear earlier this year that it is his own prerogative which funerals and crime scenes he attends.

This would include visiting murder scenes of victims he chooses at his prerogative.

Cele revealed that his department had spent over R1.5 billion on accommodation and R42.7 million on catering and R1.8 million on entertainment since March 2019.

Minister Cele has been the South African Minister of Police since February 2018.

He was National Commissioner of the SAPS for two years, until misconduct allegations led to his suspension in October 2011 and removal in June 2012.
