South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa today addressed the nation on the lockdown and the unrest in KZN.

Key Points

1. We need to provide support to poor households ti avoid hunger.

2. We need to help businesses to rebuild.

3. We need to accelerate our economic recovery plan.

4. Covid-19 is thw greatest threat to our people.

5. The latest figures show that we have passed the peak of the third wave.

6. The measures we put in the last 28 days have been effective.

7. There has been a 28% drop from the previous week.

8. There are significant differences between provinces.

9. There has been a rise in the Northern Cape after a period of decline.

10. We need to adhere to basic  precautions to prevent transmission.

11. The overall decline means we can ease some of the restrictions.

12. Cabinet decided to move the country to Level 3 with immediate effect.

13. Curfew will stay the same.

14. Inter Provincial travel for leisure may travel.

15. Bars, gyms and restaurants may open.

16. Gatherings will be allowed with 50 indoors and 100 outdoors.

17.  Attendance at funerals may not exceed 50.

18. Sale of alcohol from retail outlets 10am to 6pm Momday to Thursday.

19. Schools will open tomorrow on Monday 26 July 2021.

20. Sale of alcohol for on site consumption is as per Licence conditions.
