Zanu PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu has condemned the demolition of houses and other illegal Structures by the Harare and Goromonzi city councils.

Mpofu labeled the exercise as “insensitive and inhuman”.

“This exercise was inhuman, and we have since noticed there were no proper consultations made before the exercise was mooted,” he said.

“The demolition of houses in Melfort by the Goromonzi Rural District Council must stop forthwith. Cabinet will discuss the matter tomorrow (Tuesday) to explore an amicable solution,” Mpofu said.

Mpofu further revealed that the party has been very concerned about inhumane ongoing demolitions of houses alleged to be illegal.

These include demolitions in Melfort Mashonaland East.

“The party stands supportive to the regularisation programme of residential stands,” said the party’s Secretary for Administration Cde Obert Mpofu.

Last week, residents of Melfort in Mashonaland East province were left stranded after their houses were demolished by the Goromonzi Rural District Council, following a court order which empowered the local authority to demolish structures alleged to have been built illegally in the area.
