South African  award-winning songbird  Zahara bo born Bulelwa Mkutukana  is facing the possibility of going to prison for four years or paying a hefty fine if the state finds her guilty on seven counts of tax evasion.

Zahara, appeared in the Palm Ridge Commercial Court on Tuesday last week for contempt of court after failing to appear in court on April 19 for tax evasion.

This is according to a charge sheet, which was seen by Sunday World, prepared by the National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) South Gauteng Tax Unit against the singer last week.

She was warned to appear again on June 25 to disclose the contents of the docket to her legal representative.

Though details of the dockets were not made public, Sunday World can today reveal that Zahara is facing one count of contravening tax laws and six for failing to submit her tax returns from 2013 to 2018
