The South Africa department of home affairs has shocked traditionalists with its latest policy proposals, which have been released for public comment.
Under the proposals, South African women will now be allowed to legally marry more than one husband at the same time (polyandry).
The policy proposals are contained in the Green Paper on marriages which has 72 pages.

The department of home affairs has put forward the proposals because it says many types of marriages are not recognized under the current marriages act, and the new amendments will address the gaps.
The South African public has until the end of June to comment on the proposals.
Various social commentators have remarked that the new law will cause violence as men are naturally jealous.
