British actress Thandiwe Newton has pledged her support for incarcerated MDC Alliance MP Joana Mamombe.
Last week the Member of Parliament under Chamisa’s MDC Alliance was rushed from Chikurubi prison to hospital after complaining about illness.
Mamombe was however forcefully dismissed from the hospital against a doctor’s advice that she remain under medical care at Parktown Hospital.
A video shared widely on social media shows an ailing and frustrated Mamombe stating that she was in pain and would not leave the hospital as she just received injections.
Thousands reacted to the heart breaking video that showed the activist in pain.
Thandiwe the British actress whose mother is Nyasha a Zimbabwean also joined the masses in solidarity with Mamombe.
“For any people who distrust the truth of Joana Mamombe’s abuse, please know there are doctor’s reports which prove her horrific experience beyond a shadow of a doubt. The question we should be asking is WHO WERE THE PERPETRATORS? 🇿🇼@MercyforMamombe,” tweeted Thandiwe.
Mamombe and Cecilia Chimbiri have been denied bail many times by the state.
The two were arrested for holding a press conference at a time when the country was under lockdown.
