Thirteen officials from the South African department of public works are facing a final warning over the substandard Beitbridge Border fence.

eNCA reports that the department’s manager and the minister’s special advisor are also facing a disciplinary process.

In an interview with eNCA the Minister of the department of works agreed that the department is a mess but the reason behind that must be addressed also.

“It is because more than 12 of the managers per department have been appointed irregular without the necessary qualifications”, she said.

She further added that she has asked the department to go and request information on available technologies to solve the problem.

The parliament said the department is not functioning well hence the parliament would keep a close watch on the department in the new year.

This comes after a tour on the borders between South Africa and it’s neighbouring countries. It was discovered that two thirds of the recently installed fence at Beitbridge border post is destroyed.
