Defence and War Veterans Affairs, Minister Opprah Muchinguri says the government will scrap off unregistered unmonitored airstrips and introduce a new radar system.
According to Muchinguri, the government in partnership with Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) is working together towards bringing the up radar system to international standards.
“In this era people use modern technology for all sorts of illegal activities and the president has said we should mechanise and upgrade our system hence the introduction of a new radar system,” said Muchinguri.
She added that the new radar system will monitor aircraft flying in the country’s air space as some aircrafts use modern technology to smuggle minerals.
Adding on, CAAZ Public relations officer Julia Hungwe confirmed the operation and said they are working on it with the government.
“We are on top of the situation. It’s work in progress. Government is our shareholderso we will continue to work together with them,” said Hungwe.
