Mnangagwa has for the first time publicly addressed the coup rumors that have been doing the rounds for over 2 years.
This came as ZANU PF announced the suspension of a senior Politiburo member the evening , Claveria Chizema ( Secretary for Health).
Addressing a press conference that was attended by Matemadanda and youth leaders , Patrick Chinamasa revealed that fliers announcing a coup against Mnangagwa by Chiwenga were found at Chizema’s house and they were delivered there in March.
Chinamasa accused Chizema of secretly keeping the fliers at her house and phoning different members of the politiburo, although the purpose of her calls was not revealed.
Also named was Tinashe Maduza, A ZANU-PF 2015 Bye Election candidate for Kuwadzana, who Chinamasa said printed the coup fliers
Chinamasa said the plotters were trying to smear Chiwenga by linking him to a coup plot
Chinamasa said Mnangagwa was provided with a detailed briefing by the ZANU-PF security department and responded by saying his relationship with Chiwenga comes a long way.
– Chinamasa said there is no division between Chiwenga and Mnangagwa
Conclusion
It is clear that there is more happening behind the scenes in ZANU-PF than is being revealed.
– If Chizema is not arrested then there could be some truth behind the plot.
– Mnangagwa is now addressing the Coup rumours because he believes he has neutralised the plotters
