MDC President Thokozani Khuphe on behalf of the MDC family conveyed condolences to the Makamba family on the passing on of Zororo Makamba, the first Corona Virus victim in Zimbabwe.

Khuphe said the death of Zororo gives the government as a people an opportunity to review the manner in which they are managing the pandemic.

“It is important that we deal with this COVID-19 in the context of Africa with the limited resources as a country”,said Khuphe.

She added that, they cannot afford to manage this pandemic in a centralised manner like what Europe is doing because their health institutions and their hospitals are all over.

Khuphe said Zimbabwe does not have the same setting as Europe and therefore it cannot do cut and paste.

She said in Zimbabwe, Africa there are two health systems, the Private health system and the Public health system. Unfortunately what has happened is that in Zimbabwe they have combined the Private health system and the Public health system and that does not work.

Khuphe said they have to find ways of dealing with who comes into the Private health system and who comes to the Public health system.

She said right now there is panic and it is important that we all understand and know that having Corona Virus is not a death sentence, there are people who have survived it.

Collectively the government and the society at large must begin to interrogate how to do community management of this pandemic.
