The Zanu Pf led government has embarked on a process of reviewing the Competition Act inorder to introduce deterrent penalties on cartels and monopolies which have been stifling competition and engaging in unjustified price hikes.

Presiding over the State of the Nation Address held at the Parliament today, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said the move is directed towards creating a fair competitive play ground for production companies.

He added that the Petroleum Act will be amended to create an enabling environment for natural gas and mineral oil exploration and exploitation.

However, this address comes amid speculations that President Mnangagwa is the “boss” of fuel cartels with his Advisor Kudakwashe Tagwirei, owner of Sakunda Holdings and recently, government has claimed to have frozen Tagwirei’s accounts.
