In South Africa: In a major multi-agency operation on 27 January 2026, the Hawks arrested six primary suspects and 25 call-centre agents in Johannesburg (specifically Bryanston, Randburg, and Centurion). The syndicate allegedly used Hawala channels to move funds from global investment scams targeting victims in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia.
