Celebrated Mbira musician Hope Masike is set to release a video based on a poem from her erotica anthology, *Ndimutsewo Zvakanaka*. Directed by Jonathan Samkange of Dream Hous Productions, the video will premiere on 30 September 2025.
The poem is delivered from a female perspective, blending playful exuberance with subtle innuendo. *Ndimutsewo Zvakanaka* embraces femininity with suggestive themes exploring the dynamic between the gammer and gaffer, inviting the listener toward the peak experience of “doing it right.”
This video represents a fusion of Masike’s literary, musical, and visual creativity. Through her poetry and song, she challenges the colonial-era criminalization and fetishization of the Black Body—especially the Black Woman’s—by reclaiming and decolonizing it.
Rendered in Shona, the poem’s language grows more intense with each verse, culminating in a powerful crescendo that highlights the cultural significance of linguistic expression.
*Ndimutsewo Zvakanaka* will also launch a series of reading tours across six provinces before the end of the year.
