He’s accused of faking his own death, using fraudulent documents including a falsified eSwatini ID, and luring a former girlfriend to Mauritius on a private jet as part of a plot. Matlala is also alleged to have defrauded the state of R100,000 in a fake funeral claim for his daughter. He has been arrested multiple times for various crimes, and the state is opposing his bail application, arguing that he is a flight risk and a danger to witnesses.
