Zanu-PF National Chairperson and Minister of Defence, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, has dismissed calls for Zimbabwe’s ruling party elders to step aside and allow a younger generation to lead.

Speaking to party supporters, Muchinguri said the current leadership still has “a duty to accomplish” and warned impatient youths that they are not yet prepared to assume power.

“These youths are the ones who complain that we are now old and must go now. Yet, we still have a duty to accomplish. We are not yet satisfied that you are now ready to take over power from us,” she declared.

Her remarks come amid growing frustration among young Zimbabweans who argue that the ruling elite has clung to power for decades while the country grapples with economic decline, high unemployment, and mass emigration.

Critics say Muchinguri’s statement reflects Zanu-PF’s long-standing resistance to internal renewal and generational change.
