A recent report uncovers that the Zimbabwean company Circles has been operating since 2013, providing technology used to intercept communications and track individuals.
Notably, this technology has been employed to monitor prominent figures such as journalist Hopewell Chin’ono and opposition leader Jacob Ngarivhume.
In response, Hopewell Chin’ono tweeted:
“Very interesting to read in the Uganda Observer that Jacob Ngarivhume and I were among a group of people targeted with spyware by the Zimbabwean Government to track us. Money wasted. If you want to know where I am, just read my social media.”
His comment underscores both the extent of surveillance and his openness about his whereabouts, dismissing the effectiveness of such spying efforts.
