Former Zimbabwe Warriors captain and ex-Manchester City striker Benjani Mwaruwari has strongly distanced himself from a cruise ship job scam that is falsely using his name and image to lure unsuspecting individuals.
The scammers are reportedly operating via WhatsApp, using a South African phone number: +27 66 198 5293, and running a group called “All Cruiseship Information.” They falsely claim that Mwaruwari is behind the initiative, promising cruise ship job opportunities abroad in exchange for money.
In a public statement, Mwaruwari expressed deep disappointment and urged the public to remain vigilant.
“I want to make it clear that I am not involved in any cruise ship business, investment scheme, or WhatsApp group promoting such things,” said Mwaruwari.
“These people are using my name and image without my permission to commit fraud. I urge the public not to be misled.”
He added that he has spent years building his reputation and is disheartened to see it abused by fraudsters.
Mwaruwari is currently focused on his football coaching development, working with Plymouth Argyle under a Premier League coaching initiative aimed at helping former professional players transition into coaching roles.
