Presidential spokesperson George Charamba reacted sharply on social media to messaging that appeared to present Dr. Kudakwashe Tagwirei as leading Zimbabwe’s Land Tenure Programme. Charamba emphasized that the program is a government initiative led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, and that appointed individuals like Dr. Tagwirei are simply implementers not leaders of the policy.
Charamba called the messaging “disgusting,” accusing it of trying to create a wedge between the President and Tagwirei. He took issue with what he viewed as reckless communication, especially when it appeared under an official Coat of Arms, giving it the false impression of state endorsement.

He also humorously corrected himself after using the phrase “court of arms” instead of the correct “coat of arms,” explaining it was a malapropism a misuse of similar-sounding words referencing the literary figure Mrs. Malaprop known for such errors.
When a supporter praised him for always stepping in, Charamba replied he wished he didn’t have to, noting the government and ruling party have more important work than correcting misleading narratives.
