Controversial Zimbabwean businessman, Kuda Tagwirei has been conferred the Honorary Doctor of Business and Strategic Management by Babcock University in Nigeria.
Babcock University in Nigeria is owned and operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. It is part of the global Adventist education system and was established originally as Adventist College of West Africa in 1959. The university was among the first three private universities licensed by the Nigerian government in 1999. Its ownership and governance are under the church’s West-Central Africa Division and the three Nigerian Union conferences of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Babcock University, a trailblazer in faith-based education across Africa, awards honorary degrees to individuals who embody excellence, integrity, and strategic foresight all traits reflected in Dr Tagwirei’s extensive contributions to business, infrastructure, and national development in Zimbabwe. Known for championing economic empowerment and for his unapologetic belief in divinely inspired leadership, Dr Tagwirei’s recognition by one of West Africa’s top academic institutions signals a broader continental appreciation of African-led solutions and enterprise-driven change.
Speaking on the honour, Elder Dr. Tagwirei said, “This is not a personal achievement but a moment to reaffirm the role of strategic thinking in building an Africa that stands tall. I receive this award on behalf of every Zimbabwean who dreams, builds, and prays for a future led by wisdom and purpose.” His conferment arrives at a time when Africa’s youth are seeking pathways that combine faith, education, and entrepreneurship. His journey offers a blueprint one that reimagines leadership as a blend of vision, humility, and long-term stewardship.
This is Tagwirei’s second honorary degree, having been conferred with a Degree of Philosophy in Agribusiness, Entrepreneurship and Management (Honoris Causa) by Solusi University in November 2023.
