Prophet Walter Magaya’s much-publicised pledge to sponsor women’s football in Zimbabwe remains unfulfilled, nearly a year after the announcement that promised to transform the sport.

In 2023, the clergyman committed to injecting USD $320,000 into the women’s league, a move that was widely welcomed by the sporting community.

As part of the pledge, the league was to be rebranded as the Heart League, signalling what many hoped would be a new chapter for the long-neglected women’s game.

However, to date, no funding has been disbursed, and there has been no formal implementation of the proposed rebranding or league restructuring.

Sources within the women’s football structures expressed concern over the silence surrounding the deal, with many teams and officials saying they have received no communication regarding the promised sponsorship.
